You don’t know me.

People think that I was never very religious because they didn’t see it. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Even my own wife has learned more about my previous spirituality since I opened up in this journal than she knew before. People who know me think they knew what I was about when it came to God, but they didn’t, because I kept it to myself. As I do with most things, it’s part of my personality. It’s been quite liberating to actually share information on this blog that I would have never shared before.

As little as two years ago I would listen to the same christian music tape in the car everywhere I went and I would sing along out loud. When I was by myself of course. I really believed and wanted to be surrounded by Gods love. It’s fortunate that when I realized God doesn’t exist it didn’t have a detrimental affect on me, I can see how it would on others.

I’m not trying to contradict myself at all. I may have said in the past that I wasn’t very religious but the truth is I was never openly or outwardly religious. I believed in God, I prayed almost daily for someone other than myself, I occasionally broke out the Bible to look something up. I didn’t spend my days reading the bible. I know more about the Bible now and have read more of the Bible now than I did in my previous 36 years.

Going Public

I would like to thank the following people for some excellent tips on going public. This has been my own private blog until now.

Charles Darwin Day

This is my first Charles Darwin Day as an atheist.

Before now, I never gave Darwin much thought

Today is Darwin’s birthday. Born on February 2nd 1809. I look forward to the day that Darwin’s birthday is a respected national holiday.

Previously Insulted

As a previous believer I remember on occasion being insulted by the thought of atheism. Humorous, I know.

At church around 2004 the pastor said Gene Reddenbarry was an atheist. Being a huge Star Trek fan I was offended that the pastor would call someone an atheist who created such a great show about people accepting each other. I get it now. Without God we don’t have to hate those that think differently. Gene had it right.

When I used to watch those awards shows with Karen I would point out who didn’t thank God for their talent.

A couple of years ago I was in a Christian book store when I sneezed. No one blessed me.

About three years ago I heard about a book for non-believers so they could replace phrases with any God reference.

Today I picked up The God Delusion

After finishing the first 100 pages I decided to take a break and watch a TV show. Oddly enough that show ended up being “Supernatural.”

As of this moment I’m the only atheist that I know personally.

Does that mean atheists are rare. No it doesn’t. It does mean however we are not congregating together to worship anything. And were not asking for your money either.

After making my decision to stop believing in God I discovered that atheist are all over.

You’ve seen racists like the KKK congregate to show their support for racism. How many times have you seen non-racists congregate to support non-racism?

Why does religion suspend logic?

I’m not sure what the connection is. But I can see in my own journey to atheism that I maintained a lack of logic until the end when I broke free.

Who’s reading this blog?

The only two people I’ve shared it with so far is Karen and Stephen. This blog is not public yet and has been blocked from the search engines.

Right now it’s mostly for me to have a place to put all of my thoughts.

I’ll point it out when I take it public.
